When asked why he chose the specific model of truck, Robbie commented, “We always prefer a Scania and the residual value is excellent when you come to resell. The reports we have received back regarding this particular model from other hauliers we know, who run them have been good.”
Robbie continued, “we have a great relationship with Keltruck”.
David Morgan, New & Used Sales Director, Keltruck Ltd commented, “it’s great when you can support and celebrate a customer’s success with them. 45 years and still going strong is a fantastic achievement”.
Established in 1970, Bedworth Haulage is a proud family run business serving the food industry.
Bedworth Haulage report that they are very pleased with the performance of a new FH-540 6×2 tractor unit, the use of which they won in a Volvo Trucks’ prize draw.
The draw took place during the ‘Commercial Motor Live’ event at the Millbrook Proving Ground in the autumn of 2012.
While viewing the new FH in the main exhibition hall, Bedworth Haulage’s Ian Thacker was stunned when it was announced that the company had won the use of a new FH for a week.
Following its handover by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, the truck was placed in the capable hands of one of Bedworth’s most experienced drivers, Michael Kitchen, during its sojourn with the Coventry-based company.
Michael reports that he was particularly impressed with the driver safety support systems, including Lane Keeping Support and Adaptive Cruise Control. He also praised many of the cab features, including the increased range of adjustment in the seats, the sliding doors on the lockers and the absence of blind spots, thanks to the new mirrors.
“I can’t believe how much the FH has changed,” says Michael, adding: “It’s very hard to find fault with anything about the new truck.”
According to Ian Thacker, the FH – which was fully freighted to 44 tonnes both out and back – achieved around 9 mpg during its time with Bedworth Haulage.
“We usually do continental work, but as it was with us for a week, we ran the FH on a job down to Southampton every day,” explained Ian Thacker. “With quite a few gradients, the A34 provides a good test of fuel economy. We expect all the trucks in our fleet to average at least 8 to 8.5mpg and the FH didn’t disappoint as it turned in a very respectable figure of about 9 mpg.”
In his 37-year career as a professional driver, often on transcontinental, long haul work, Michael has driven most types of Volvo, including F88s, F10s, F12s and more recently an FH16-610 and an FH16-660.
Bedworth Haulage is now scheduled to take delivery of two new Volvo FH16-750 trucks later this month.
